Woodvale Secondary College

Woodvale Secondary College

Students in Years 7 through 12 are empowered, challenged, and supported to be future-ready at Woodvale Secondary College.

They have a very good reputation for their college in the local community. Each student will have the chance to develop academic rigor and to attain personal success in a good and safe environment thanks to the efforts of the Woodvale Secondary Institution Board, faculty, and parents who support their college.

The curriculum’s breadth, which includes preparation for TAFE and the workforce in addition to university entrance, reflects the community’s wishes and professional objectives. Typically, 45% of Year 12 students pursue coursework at the level required for admission to universities, with the remainder students enrolling in Certificate programs and/or General Pathways.

The College has a history of exceptional success in the VET field and has forged enduring ties with local companies in Perth.

Since its founding, the College has taken pleasure in its excellent ICT focus, and it continues to run an enviable one-to-one program. Every instructor and student have a laptop that is equipped by the College with programs and security. As a result, online instruction and learning can continue without interruption. When their infrastructure and planning allowed for a smooth transition to learning from home during the COVID-19 epidemic, the College adequately established its capability to teach various curriculum online.

The college is praised for the variety of options it gives students, including leadership opportunities, co-curricular opportunities, participation in sporting or artistic endeavors, and specialist programs (basketball, music, academic extension & enrichment).

Three extremely positive Independent Public School Reviews and a lot of pressure from families outside the immediate intake region attest to Woodvale Secondary College’s longstanding strong reputation within the larger community.

Woodvale continues to provide a secure, encouraging, and supportive learning environment for all students, whether it is due to the College’s strong focus on wellbeing, ongoing student engagement in their own voice, strong leadership, an ICT program that is the envy of the government sector, or the high caliber of their teaching and support staff.

A public school review is all about self-assessment.  Questions asked by staff and the College Community are:

  • How are we going?
  • How do we know?
  • What are we doing to improve?

Their self-evaluation was validated by the 2020 reviewers, Mr. Andrew Host (Principal, Margaret River SHS) and Ms. Vicki McKeown (Director, Public School Review). The evaluators made mention of the excellent collaborations and connections within the College community as well as the focus on the welfare of staff and students. In their evaluation, 25 commendations were given, and the school offered eight recommendations. The foundation of any successful school is an improvement agenda, thus the Woodvale team does not let a stellar report stop them from offering suggestions for future enhancements.

Without a question, 2021 was tremendously difficult and exhausting. Given the many positives and noteworthy accomplishments against a backdrop of uncertainty and difficulty, Woodvale may look back on it with pride. In 2020, their co-curricular program was launched, and in 2021, 660 students took part in it. The median ATAR for Year 12 students in 2021 was 82.1, and 73% of the cohort were VET students.

Like other schools, Woodvale must continuously be aware of the local, national, and international trends and forces driving change in order to compete and be relevant in its community. It must also be dedicated to self-improvement. The College’s emphasis in this area is reflected in the most recent Business Plan.
