Liwara Catholic Primary School

Liwara Catholic Primary School

Liwara Catholic Primary School stands as a testament to a longstanding commitment to education within the heart of Greenwood, Western Australia. Since their establishment in 1974, they’ve proudly served the local community, nurturing young minds from Pre-Kindy through to Year 6. Their school enjoys the serenity of lush, green surroundings and boasts easy accessibility via the Mitchell freeway.

Delving into their rich history, Liwara Catholic Primary School was officially inaugurated in 1974, under the leadership of Sr Leonie O’Brien as the inaugural school principal. The school’s genesis stemmed from the ardent desire of the Greenwood Catholic community to establish and support a Catholic primary institution. This institution was envisioned not just as an educational center but as an integral part of the community, aiming to exemplify Christian values and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and faith among teachers, students, and parents.

Initially, the school faced temporary accommodation challenges, finding itself housed in a local hall situated a significant distance, necessitating transport for children from the parish community. Despite these logistical hurdles, the school began its journey with a humble enrollment of 69 pupils in February 1974, a number that quickly surged to an impressive 256 by the start of the following year, 1975.

Under Sr Leonie O’Brien’s leadership, Liwara flourished, fostering a strong sense of community identity, nurturing active parental involvement through the P&F, and establishing robust parish connections. Despite initial challenges in design and a sloping block, the school boasts commendable facilities, adapting to changing educational needs. The addition of a Kindergarten building in 2001 and the introduction of an Outside School Hours Care center in 2010 are testament to their commitment to evolving with the times.

Their school has continually expanded in tandem with the development of the northern corridor, evolving into a vibrant, dual-stream community catering to Pre-Kindergarten through Year 6. Their growth has been made possible through the unwavering support and goodwill of a dedicated community, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment.

They invite you to explore more about their history and vibrant community through their website, social media channels, or by visiting them in person for a tour to experience firsthand if they resonate with the educational aspirations of your family.
